Helping when outside

Window of Helping When Outside software application

This service is able to locate a user on a map, automatically detect when he is disoriented and assist him in getting help either from his family/caregiver or an external emergency service. For the locating functionality alone, the user has to wear a device (e.g. wristwatch/ bracelet) that is reachable by an outdoor locating system and a mobile telephone.
The locating functionality allows the carers and family of the end user to track him in order to know his location when he leaves the house. This functionality can be provided:

  • on it’s own without the guidance, for people who tend to get lost when moving around e.g., with Alzheimer’s condition. (no interaction takes place)
  • with the guidance functionality that requires interaction between the elderly and service. For example, the system knows where he should be (from his calendar or habits) and asks him if that’s where he would like to go.

This service had been tested in pilot sites of Italy and Denmark.

Outdoor information and assistance bubbles

The service consists in providing assistance to an elderly person and when is located near a public building (in the “bubble” created by the building). The service has two different use cases:

  • Information provision: when the user is in the surroundings of a public building (theatre, sports centre, town hall, church, health centre) then the service pushes to his/her PMD* relevant information about the topics related to the building where the user is, and PERSONA system filters the information according to his preferences.
  • Assistance provision: when the user enters one of those buildings, the system inside is able to send a message to his/her PMD. The message contains an application that can be run in the PMD, in order to help the user in that building.

This service had been tested in the pilot site of Spain.
