have grown to 4,4 million. Vodafone Italia is to the first place between the
European companies of Vodafone Group for number of devices
UMTS.
Since it was established in 1995 it has stood out for its innovative approach to

Interdepartmental Research Center "E. Piaggio" is an Institute of the University
of Pisa, working to promote and perform multidisciplinary research in the fields
of Bioengineering, Robotics and Automation. It cooperates with private and public
companies to study specific application problems that need advanced or innovative
solutions. The staff is composed by electronic and chemical engineers, physicists,
chemists and biologists.
The main research areas of our Institute include materials engineering
(piezoresistives, piezoelectric polymer, polyelectrolyte gel, conducting polymer)
and bioengineering: "intelligent" materials and systems for sensing and actuation
(i.e. artificial senses - touch and olfaction, biosensors, pseudo-muscular actuators).

The "Mountain Community of Taro and Ceno Valleys" (CMV) is operating since 1976 and has been constituted in accordance with the art. 27 D.L. 18/08/2000 N.267 and Regional laws N.3/1999 e N.11/2001. As a Local Administration body, the mission of CMV is to exploit the mountain territory of the member Municipalities with the fulfilment of special plans and interventions for the development of mountain areas as established by the European Union in accordance with the Regional and National legislations. The CMV is in charge of managing the assistance to elderly, young and disabled persons in the member Municipalities.

CNR Institute of Information Science and Technologies (CNR-ISTI)

The Institute of Information Science and Technologies (ISTI) is the largest institute of the Italian National Research Council (CNR); it is located in the CNR Research Area of Pisa. ISTI was constituted in September 2000 as a result of a merger between the CNUCE Institute (CNR-CNUCE) and the Institute for Information Processing (CNR-IEI). The Institute became fully operational in 2002. It is the largest Institute among the 110 Institutes spread all over Italy and constituting the CNR. Research is organized in dynamic units, called Research Laboratories, which pursue a well-defined set of strongly related scientific objectives. The teams include permanent staff, visitors, post-doctoral fellows and doctoral students, with an average number of 10 members per Lab. The Research Laboratories are largely independent and results are subject to periodical evaluation; the current number of Research Laboratories at ISTI is 14.
